What it proves
Job creation can coexist with rising unemployment when labour supply grows faster.
What it does not prove: The roughly 9.95m added to employment counts anyone doing any work in the survey reference week, including unpaid family labour and casual informal work, so it is a headcount of work, not of productive or decent jobs. The simultaneous 1.39m rise in unemployment shows the two numbers move together: job creation here did not outrun the inflow it had to absorb.
Memory hook: 9.95m new jobs → still 1.4m more unemployed than four years earlier
Rebuts the claim: "Millions of jobs were created, so the employment challenge is being met" — unemployment rose by 1.39m over exactly the same period.
